Through the Wall

Great Wall of China

Standing inside one of the towers, I looked through this narrow opening and wondered how many people had stood in the same place centuries before me, watching the landscape beyond the wall. Long before cameras, this was a view someone may have carried only in memory, perhaps describing it years later to people who would never see it themselves. I had a camera to preserve what was in front of me. They had only the view.
